Field notes
Observed closely, for science.
- 01 · Habitat
- Warm still water, 36 to 38 degrees. Rarely seen in the wild; common on bath edges.
- 02 · Behaviour
- Turns to face nothing in particular. Drifts away from any disturbance, then slowly back to the middle.
- 03 · Call
- A single squeak, produced only when squeezed. Silent when floating.
- 04 · Field marks
- Orange bill, painted eyes, a seam you can feel under the tail where the two halves meet.
